"The Humanities" is the kind of distinction made in the vaunted halls of Academia, as separate from "The Sciences." In general it's supposed to describe cultural studies, the things humans do and make and think. Philosophy, Theology, History, and the Arts.
I, personally, am an intentionally multidisciplinary individual with "[[sundry and divers interests]]," and so I'm a little skeptical of the idea that the [[critical method|critical methods]] and the [[empirical method|empirical methods]] are necessarily in conflict. At my heart and core, however, my lens on the world and on reality is [[narrative]] theology, so it would be fair to say that I believe the deepest questions and the realest real things are discovered by critical method.
